You what's better than being sad and listening to the most gut-wrenching music to aggravate even more your feelings? You guessed it. Nothing! There is, objectively, nothing better than that experience. I am sorry to all the optimist out there, I am one myself. But in times of blues, having the companionship of a sad song blasting through your ears is just unmatchable. I was discussing this with a friend a few days ago. She said that it made no sense to play Lana Del Rey while being sad, ‘Ines you are making it so much harder for yourself’. And I just couldn't disagree more. The comfort and validation one feels while listening to a song that accurately puts into words whatever it is you may be going through, is extremely comforting. It makes you realize how human we are; and even thought it sometimes doesn't feel like it, we all go through the same things. What do you mean an A star celebrity, that could not have a more different life than me, experiences heart-break and loneliness the same way I do. See, that is already enough for you to feel better.

And let's be real, who doesn't love a good, coming-of-age, movie moment? Suddenly you are Bridget Jones wearing wired headphones and a cute comfy pajama set trying to get over a guy you've never talked to. Talk about a girl that's going to be okay. We all deserve a main character, dramatic moment. Bonus point if you do it sitting on a cushioned windowsill at night. Sad moments should be experienced the way the universe intended to; heart-felt, with watery eyes and a fictional camera filming you. I think we can all agree that movie culture trained our brains into thinking there is always a camera pointing at us. Are you taking the bus to work with your headphones on and your head against the window? Boom, baby, you are an actress and this is your moment. Soundtrack on point, dramatic expressions achieved, what else does one need to romanticize an ordinary, sad moment in life.

Sad music is also about perspective. If you are trained enough, Billie Eilish's music is, a hundred percent, a valid choice to listen to while doing your makeup for a night out. A beautiful instrumental can be just what you needed before heading to a loud and noisy club. It is a spiritual experience, kind of like a meditation, one may say. Nervous system? Perfectly balanced. Stimulation? Perfectly fine to tolerate large groups of people. Once you unlock this type of music, there is no going back. And remember, never let a rat in you ear tell you Frank Ocean is not pre-game music. Enjoy these memes, choose your favorite sad artist, and maybe shed a happy tear. All feelings are welcome.
